Hamza Hai is the editor of TortWise. She holds an MBA and reviews the site's articles against our editorial standards, checking that every figure is labelled for what it is, that nothing is presented as verified fact without a source the reader can check, and that the writing stays useful to a non-specialist.

Plain-language legal explainers
TortWise guides are written by our editorial team from published jury-verdict data, insurer claim manuals, and state statutes. They are general information, not legal advice, and never a substitute for a licensed attorney.
What every article is checked against
- Nothing is invented. We do not publish statistics, study results, citations, quotes, prices, or credentials that we cannot stand behind. Where a specific number would be a guess, we write the principle instead and say why.
- Every figure is labelled. Illustrative examples are called illustrative. A worked example, its charts, its calculator and its FAQs are checked against each other so the same scenario produces the same numbers everywhere.
- Time-sensitive facts point to the source. Rates, limits, deadlines, programme rules and code requirements change, and they vary by provider and by place. We explain the mechanism and send you to the official source for the current figure.
- Links are verified. Internal links are checked to resolve. We do not link out for the sake of it, and a link is never a substitute for explaining something.
- Images are described from the image. Alt text and captions describe what is actually in the picture. Where a stock image does not match the subject, we say so in the caption rather than let it imply something untrue.
- Corrections are made in place. When something is wrong we fix the article itself and move the updated date, rather than quietly leaving it or burying a note.
The limits of what we do
Our editor is not an attorney, and nothing on TortWise is legal advice or a substitute for a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction. Editorial review checks that we explain mechanisms accurately, flag where rules vary by state, and never state a deadline, statute, or outcome as if it were settled for your situation.
